In-vitro Fertilization (IVF)
In most cases a woman finds about the need for infertility treatment with the use of assisted reproductive technologies from the results of yet another gynecological examination. And the question that a married couple often asks about IVF is what is that? A couple cannot imagine what is entailed in an in vitro fertilization method, what does IVF consist of, what is in vitro fertilization (IVF), how safe is IVF procedure for a woman, where to turn to, which specialists will perform the IVF procedure the best.
The effectiveness of in vitro egg fertilization is proven by many years of successful experience in using this technology for infertility treatment. Basically, in vitro fertilization technology, the essence of IVF consists of the following: an egg is extracted from a mom-to-be following ovarian stimulation; this egg is then fertilized in vitro with the sperm of a dad-to-be. This is the reason why children who were born with the help of in vitro fertilization (IVF) are often called "test tube babies". This underlines the difference in the conception method – in vitro or in vivo, with the help of ART or inside a mother's body. Afterwards, the embryos (usually that is two well developing embryos obtained in vitro) are transferred inside a mother's uterus; then, if implantation was successful, pregnancy continues in a regular way.
You should keep in mind, however, that pregnancy does not often occur from the first IVF attempt. You shouldn't despair! In vitro fertilization procedure is not a simple process. Experience has shown that the best IVF is not always the first one. There are cases when pregnancy occurred after the fourth or even the tenth attempt of in vitro conception! Generally, the subsequent IVF attempts use embryos that were obtained in vitro and have undergone cryopreservation (normally, several viable embryos are obtained as a result of preparing the parents' biological material for IVF, but usually no more than two are used).
Later on in this section you will be able to learn more details about all aspects of the difficult process of in vitro fertilization, to understand the "essence" of IVF, starting from the history of IVF, its effectiveness and description of various in vitro fertilization methods. You will find out about the IVF protocol, what types of medications are required for the IVF procedure at various stages of the process. You will learn about the possibilities for obtaining quotas for free IVF (you should not forget that in vitro fertilization procedure is not one of the cheapest ones out there!) You will also be able to find out about the clinics and medical centers that conduct infertility treatment with the use of ART and conduct in vitro fertilization. Everything will be provided in great detail that will be important to you, if you plan on becoming parents with the use of in vitro fertilization method (IVF).
