Some time ago I wrote a comment on some study of Swedish scientists dedicated to alleged increased risk of cancer development in "IVF" children.
If you remember, I was outraged by a pseudoscientific approach of these, so to speak, scientists, as well as by their desire to inflate a sensation from scratch.
As it turned out, I was not the only one who was not left indifferent towards this situation. Researchers from the Institute of Child Health in London published a research based on a study of 106,013 children conceived with IVF. The researchers obtained data from the Center of Fertilization and Embryology of the United Kingdom, and compared them with the data from the national registry of children's tumors. The results of the study indicate the absence of increased risk of leukemia, neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma, tumors of the central nervous system, kidney or germ cell tumor among children conceived with assisted reproduction techniques. The researchers discovered a slightly increased risk of hepatoblastoma - form of liver cancer, and rhabdomyosarcoma - soft tissue cancer, but, nevertheless, the absolute risk of these diseases remained extremely small.
"The current study is almost 5 times more extensive than Swedish, and it certainly has greater weight", - said Dr. Richard J. Polson, Head of the department of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, when commenting the results of the work of scientists from London. As the saying goes, no comments. Once again, for all who have taken advantage or plans to take advantage of the IVF: this technology follows the nature, and children "from the tube" have no differences from their peers in any direction, neither better nor worse.
