Studies devoted to the influence of IVF procedure on the female body are being carried out in universities and research centers worldwide.
It is believed that ovarian stimulation during the preparation for IVF can become a risk factor for cancer of the female reproductive system. However, the results of a study conducted by U.S. experts refute this theory.
Scientists from the National Cancer Institute in Rockville (Maryland) have analyzed case histories of 67,608 women who have undergone the IVF procedure and of 19,795 women who were in need of treatment of infertility, but who have not undergone the procedure of in vitro fertilization. The review took into account data for the period between 1994 and 2011.
It was found that the incidence of ovarian cancer does not depend on whether the patient has undergone IVF or not. "These results are quite encouraging", - said the study author Louise Brinton.
