Women with asthma may experience problems with conception.
Researchers from the University Hospital of Bispebjerg (Denmark) have analyzed data on health status of 14,000 women. Such facts as presence in women of the diagnosis of asthma, duration of their attempts to get pregnant and how many children they have were taken into account.
It has been found that women with asthma get pregnant harder than women without such a diagnosis. In the group of patients with asthma 27% could not get pregnant for a long time (over a year). At the same time, in the group of healthy study participants this figure was 21%.
The study's authors believe that the reason for this phenomenon lies in the systemic inflammatory effect that asthma has on the entire body. Thus, if asthma remains untreated, the problems with conception are exacerbating. And in contrast, with therapeutic treatment directed against asthma, pregnancy can occur faster.
