33-year-old woman from Sweden successfully gave birth to a child after transplantation of her own frozen ovarian tissue.
Ten years ago 23-year-old Lotte was diagnosed with a malignant tumor. The woman was prescribed chemotherapy, which could not but lead to infertility. But doctors at the Department of Reproductive Medicine of Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm had frozen healthy ovarian tissue of the woman before chemotherapy.
Lotte has successfully undergone a course of treatment from cancer, and in summer 2012 her own ovarian tissue was transplanted to her. After a course of hormonal stimulation and procedure of artificial insemination the woman successful got pregnant. And on the last Monday in the Mälarsjukhuset hospital of the city Eskilstuna the daughter of Lotte and her husband Magnus was born. The girl was named Freya.
According to the doctor who performed the transplantation of ovarian tissue, Kenya Rodriguez-Wallberg, there are only 25 children all over the world that were born after a similar operation.
